We were camping out in the dessert in Arizona (so we could have no light pollution to see the Blue Moon) and during the night a pack of coyotes had a kill and we’re howling. Mind you, these yurts had now power. So we just had lanterns by battery charge!
Saw a doggy threesome. A mutt going at another mutt who was defiling a chihuahua. Was driving and couldn’t get video, so I doubled back around and they were gone. Now no one believes me and I’m starting to think I hallucinated.
I’m disheartened by your insight, but have to admit you’re right. So either we are living in a simulation or I actually saw a dog threesome. I don’t know which option I want to believe.
We have a lot of wildlife in Alaska, shockingly, and as a fan of birds, we support our locals by putting out bird feeders. It helps them and keeps our cats entertained from inside, as they get to embrace hunting instincts while watching black-capped chickadees, red-breasted nuthatches, and their primary nemesis, the dreaded Steller's Jay, amongst others, through glass.
We've had a fair few pigeons start showing up, though, because they love free food more than any other bird. One day I went upstairs to let my cats out and enjoy the sun when I looked out because I saw a blur of motion. When I looked out, one of the pigeons was, uh, under foot of a bird of prey. It was a juvenile Northern Goshawk (confirmed with the local Audubon Society later), and this guy had apparently dove and crushed a pigeon under its giant talons. I still elected to go outside, minus cats, because I wanted to take a picture. The Goshawk side-eyed me, then glared at me, tried to take off, realized the pigeon was too large for that, and then decided to waddle across my entire backyard with said pigeon in his claws to escape my presence. Once it achieved an acceptable distance, it decided to eat the entire pigeon right there and left everything it didn't want for us to clean up. It was super gross.
After it left, I went outside with my cats for the next few days, always with my eyes on the sky. That bird could definitely do the same thing to one of them. It was a beast.
I thought the bodega's cat was behind the cooled they had out front so I took a look...nope it was a big ass possum! "What you doing in these streets in the middle of the day possum?" - Me, I have no idea why I was talking to him, I knew he was too embarrassed to answer
While excavating this summer, our team stayed in the dorms of an agricultural high school and weekend breakfasts were always entertaining. Our dining area was outside, adjacent to a chicken coop, and any given morning the rooster would promenade across the lawn with the hens. They would occasionally be joined by a goose and a couple of peacocks. The best/worst was when the caretaker’s Pomeranians got loose—they chased anything and everything, including us, barking as ferociously as they could. Always a highlight of the weekend.
Nothing more exciting than the coonhound finding a possum in a tree in the backyard ... at about 1:00 in the morning. Full hound exclamations of "I found something" being sonically mixed with the hissed of one scared, pissed off possum. After the scamble of finding sandals to try to see what the hell is going on, the we mixed in the owners yelling to keep them separated and to get the dog back inside. I'm sure the neighbors were thrilled that night. Months later, that tree still gets a courtesy check from the dog at night.
When I was younger, my sister and I raised some wild Five Lined Skinks from eggs we found in the back of our truck. There were four, and we went guerrilla on their enclosure, plexiglass and such. Named them Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Stinky. Inky's egg never hatched, but the rest thrived until we set em loose on the unsuspecting University of Kentucky football field. I want to thank you again for the swag I got from Saga team for entering the costume contest! Also, thanks for guiding me to Something's killing the children, Werther Dell'edra is my jam :)
I’m not much of a fan of animals in person so I stick to funny animal videos. The other day a dog brushed up against me unexpectedly and I made a weird yelp noise. I am embarrassed by my reaction..🤷🏻♂️
Going to work at 5am saw a giant deer just standing at my complex’s gate, I was amazed and scared af at the same time. Not sure why I was surprised if I live in a place called literally deer creek.
I take a daily walk around a nearby lake. On my walk the other day, a Blue heron flew down and landed right in front of me. While I stopped, it didn't even hesitate to descend into the water as I looked on.
Not exactly all that impressive, but a few of us dads took our 13 year old gals to 6 Flags (SF) for the horror stuff (which they eventually avoided). Before it got dark, we all took a pause and enjoyed some penguins. Who doesn't love those tuxedoed fellas?!?
Congrats on 200 pages, too....thrilled & honored to have been around since page #1!!
Edited because I think I "rained" hell, not "reigned" it, right? What a dimwit.
Straight-up hero.
*meep meep*
Second devastating response in two weeks, Ben! I'm sorry...

This was literally a page in last week's Spectators.

Thanks Shaun, now I will have to share my SECOND-BEST encounter é_è

My dumbass cat keeps bringing voles in the house and making the rest of us chase them around.
