Hi Brian! Just replying here to ask if there is a Discord server or similar "chat room" set up for folks in The Tower? I only joined yesterday but everyone in the comment threads seems genuinely nice and a lot of them are hilarious ("Nice try FED" lol).
Hey, John! I'm too old and dumb to know what a Discord server is, so no, this weekly thread is the closest thing we've got to a chat room, but I check it daily and read every single word you folks are kind enough to share, even if I don't always have time to respond.
Nailed it. The upper Midwest is so great for the reasons you stated. I’m even closer than that to the lake, so it really feels like living on one of the coasts.
We have some great state parks on Lake Michigan on our side. Going to the beach early in the morning, it feels like another world sometimes just laying in the sand and listening to the waves. A few years ago I was involved in a work project that took up about 65 hours a week. We made a habit of hitting the beach Sunday mornings to decompress until the post church crowd showed up. Then we would get the hell out of there.

From Traverse City, which is a resort town in the Northern Lower Peninsula right on Lake Michigan. Now live in metro Detroit, but my parents are still in the same house I grew up in, so I can still go home again.
Funny, first post I saw is one from the home state of Michigan...and one of my favorite cities within. My parents still have a cottage up in that are (at the Homestead) and I don't get back there nearly enough.

I'm originally from the suburbs of Portland, Oregon in the USA. I'm just finishing up a wonderful three years in Baltimore, Maryland and am about to relocate to Monterey, California. Being far from home is bittersweet because you get to experience so much in terms of culture, food, and nature— while still feeling homesick. I'll be excited to learn a new area while being at least on the same coast as home.
I’m from a little city outside of Los Angeles that no one usually knows about. Born and raised, tried my hand and other state living but I must have picked the most hot and humid ones to try because my o’my was it hot. Moved to the valley for about 7 years but alas I am home where I belong :)
I am originally from Boston where I spent about two years as a toddler as my dad finished his PhD. Then ended up in upstate NY, southern Cali, Iowa, Oklahoma, back to Boston (for school), and New York City for many years (with a stint in Hong Kong in between.) And now I'm in idyllic Princeton, NJ which isn't too far off from where I started...
Omaha, Nebraska, and proud of it (especially when our county flipped blue for Biden). I live in the SF Bay area now, but get back there a few times a year. Also, the mention of Phil Hartman made me remember how truly crushed I was when he died, and the horrible story of it. Truly one of the funniest and most influential people of my childhood.
Originally from just outside of Hartford, Connecticut. Currently in the San Francisco Bay area by way of Florida, and just about to head to Detroit, Michigan. I've done a lot of criss-crossing. 😅
I was born in, and continue to reside in, southeastern Indiana. Farthest I've ever moved away was 61 miles from my parents house to go to college, haha. Raising kids here now and couldn't see raising them anywhere else. Not a knock on any of the other great places in this world, of course.

Beautiful place. I got to spend a Christmas in Harbor Springs and Traverse City and it was magical.
