Welcome, new Tower members! And just a heads-up, it looks like one of our double-page spreads may have shifted to the end of the story in that PDF, but we'll upload a corrected file shortly!

Holding onto the PDF with the misprint. Might be worth something someday. ;)

Now after shamelessly attempting to be the first comment I read the post and I’m always blown away at some of the things you’ll share in here thank you so much it’s really cool getting an idea of what it must have been like when you were starting out. I think it’s cool how in your notes to Mr.Constanza you speak with a reverence of well one of us in the tower talking to you haha. So thank you. I can’t imagine it’s easy showing your early, unpublished work (despite your obvious talent) when you’re currently such an adored and acclaimed writer.

I’m currently most looking forward to the next episode of “The Last of Us.” Especially after that gut punch of an episode. The people creating the show are so talented and have an obvious reverence for the source material. I loved seeing Nick Offerman play something like a post-apocalyptic version of the old man from the Pixar movie “Up.” In an episode that was, in essence, a 45 minute, live-action, non-heteronormative version of the heart wrenching montage from the start of the movie “Up”. Also I’m super excited to see the series James Gunn revealed for the start of the new DCU especially after hearing of Tom king’s involvement

My 10 year old and I are anxiously awaiting The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I've always been a comics person, not really interested in games, until Zelda Breath of the Wild, so this sequel is high on our list.

Hoping for May! Her name's Zetta, so for her birthday last year we made shirts that read "The Legend of Zetta, Decade of the Child".

How can any film nerd pick just one movie coming out this year? A new Evil Dead flick, another Guardians movie, a Spider-Verse sequel...plus movies from from Fincher and Ari Aster?! Those are just for starters, too!!

Thus, I respectfully decline to answer your question.

BUT, if I have to provide something to qualify for free stuff, I'll just say I am very excited to get my daughter's reaction to seeing Ms. Swift this summer. I won't have to (err, get to) tag along with her, but her mom promises to sneak some quick video's of the experience for me. Should be fun.

You're missing out on the TSwift!

Expand full comment

Oh, I can imagine (and don't hate her music), but we had to jump through so many hoops just to get two tickets, so I'll have sit this one out.

Expand full comment

Oh, man ... what a cluster-f that ticket-buying experience was.

Yep, and the much, much worse, too. We got so lucky with a friend of my mother-in-law's (of all people)!

The new Ari Aster film looks like he's channeling Michel Gondry. I am definitely here for it.

Expand full comment

Yep, it looks so different from his earlier movies...and while I dug both of those, a lot, I am so on board with this new one!

Expand full comment

Interesting you should say that. To me it felt very much like Charlie Kaufman! Not a huge difference, I’ll admit…

I'd advocate for turning attention to the April release of Renfield. Nicholas Hoult plays Renfield, Dracula's faithful assistant. When Renfield falls in love with a traffic cop (played by Awkwafina), he wants to leave his job and run away with his new love. Count Dracula is played by none other than...

Nicholas Cage.

ARE YOU READY FOR CAGE DRACULA?

You had me at Nicholas Hoult. He's phenomenal in The Great. This flick looks like fun!

Too many exciting films coming out to pick one, but on the literary front: the new Nathan Ballingrud novel, "The Strange". I loved Wounds and North American Lake Monsters and can't wait to see what he's got cookin this time.

A movie coming out next year that is sure to be unique: Julio Torres wrote and directed a movie called Problemista. He's a lunatic. Everything he has made; his SNL sketches, that prop stand-up special, and Los Espookeys; have all been equal parts great and stupid. Plus he has Tilda Swinton and Isabella Rossellini in it.
