That is a house centipede. They're terrifying looking and move like something out of a horror movie but they can be beneficial to have around: they eat other bugs like bedbugs and silverfish. They can bite but it's very rare.
A house centipede. They can actually be good to have around as they eat other bugs like termites, silverfish, or cockroaches. That said they do look like flesheating alien brainbugs. Recommendation - squish on sight.
Mr. Sale's contribution to the art form is hard to top. I've probably reread the Loeb/Sale Batman books more than almost anything else in my collection.
"In 1902, C.L. Marlatt, an entomologist with the United States Department of Agriculture writes in Circular #48 - The House Centipede: "It may often be seen darting across floors with very great speed, occasionally stopping suddenly and remaining absolutely motionless, presently to resume its rapid movements, often darting directly at inmates of the house, particularly women, evidently with a desire to conceal itself beneath their dresses, and thus creating much consternation."
Wait those house centipedes eat silverfish? Where can I find some of these supremely useful exterminators, those dang silverfish refuse to leave my house, no matter what I try.

That’s Ambush Bug
I only know it by the noise it makes when our vacuum sucks it up...
It’s definitely not of this world.
I think that's a house centipede https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/heres-why-you-should-never-kill-a-house-centipede/
That's a house centipede. They're good to have around. And, yeah, stay away from those pesky Ceti eels from Wrath of Khan. 👍

Well well well, look at all the fancy entomologists in here!
Thanks,
The Lowly Etymologist
Seems to be that cybo bug that wheedled it's way into Mr Anderson's belly button in popular trans sci fi romp The Matrix...
Thank you for your touching tribute to Tim Sale, Brian, and to the whole gang for another stunning few pages 💞
Have a great week all and look after yourselves !! Xx
House centipede. Send it to Fiona and she will hybrid it into the next cute amazing character in the next arc you can then ruthlessly kill. 😘
That's a beautiful creature. It would be a shame to just kill it. Maybe invest in carnivorous plants to help.
This early writing about them cracked me up:
