Feels like it’s going to be another absolutely bonkers week in the world, huh?
Brian here, and we’ve got four important new pages to Spectators from the extraordinary Niko Henrichon this fine Monday (letterer Fonografiks will be back on duty once this silent section of our serialized graphic novel concludes).
But first, a brief reminder of the horrific fate of NYC theatergoer Val, gunned down by a mass shooter in our previous installment:
And yet, our story continues…
What a double-page spread, huh? Worth checking out on a nice monitor if you’re reading this on your phone, but no judgment.
I promise that Spectators is somehow only getting started with the unexpected swerves, so we hope you’ll join us next Monday to see where the hell things go from here.
A brief update from the Instagram account of Ridna Mova, wonderful Ukrainian publisher of Saga and many other comics and novels. Forgive the awkward Google translation of their words:
Hey, remember the time that artist Tony Harris and I had Vladimir Putin attempt to brainwash our superhero-turned-mayor into assassinating Pope John Paul II?
I sure as fuck didn’t, but comics historian and King of the Modern Letter Hacks Reed Beebe is on the case with this thoughtful essay over at Medium about one of the strangest arcs of our sci-fi political thriller Ex Machina.
What have YOU been reading/watching/otherwise consuming recently? Anything you’d recommend to the rest of us…?
This Wednesday, DC Comics releases the second and final softcover compendium of Y: The Last Man.
If you and/or your loved ones were some of the millions of viewers who dug our long-gestating, tragically short-lived television adaptation, here’s your chance to see what might have become of Yorick, Agent 355, Doctor Mann & friends after that last episode’s beautiful cliffhanger.
I like to think that both our characters and the creative team behind the comic evolved a great deal over our series’ six years, and I remain in particular awe of what co-creator Pia Guerra did with our final issue.
Thanks to everyone behind the scenes at DC’s Black Label for doing such a lovely job with this latest collection.
Finally, if you’ve got a little time to kill this afternoon, NPR’s Mallory Yu recently interviewed me about the return of Saga for the always engaging All Things Considered.
And if you’re dying to hear even more of my annoying Henchman 24-esque voice, I’ll be hosting a new podcast-thing called MATURE READERS exclusively for you generous paid subscribers, where I’ll be talking with some of my favorite creators about comics made for an adult audience.
We’ll be announcing our unbelievably cool first guest soon (along with details about how you Tower members can listen to our conversation live and even participate), but for now, here’s to a happy and healthy rest of your week.
Peace,
BKV
