absolutely fantastic news about year two - congrats all ! spectators remains an essential part of my wonderful comics melange, so can't wait for 52 more weeks of it (at least!).
hope everyone is enjoying the new year so far - i've been spending mine, well, reading a shit ton of comics (lotsa batman!), selling books, and watching a pretty fascinating doc about the 90s wwe vs. wcw era of wrestling !
also purchased Wolk's 'All of the Marvels' full-Marvel read thru book which, i note, has a recommendation from a one mr K. Vaughan ! can't wait to dig into it.
I will jump on with year two pricing (sorry, I’m a cheap bastard). Been enjoying Spectators from the beginning. It’s been fantastic and I spread the word about it wherever and whenever I can. Thank you Brian and Niko for being awesome!
Have really enjoyed year one. Spectators is fantastic, the newsletter an undisputed highlight of the week, and the chat/community entertaining, informative, and fun. I’m excited to see what year two brings and generally looking forward to more of everything.
So many Angelika memories. One that is particularly vivid is watching Ghost Dog on opening night and there being no subtitles for Ghost Dog's French-speaking friend. Everyone was like "should we know what he's saying? Because he's talking kind of a lot". After the film ended they announced that there WERE supposed to be subtitles and that we had watched a defective print. The management offered everyone free tickets to see the movie again the next morning at 8am (!!!) with the subtitles. For several reasons I did not take them up on this offer.
Ok. You’ve got me! I’ve read along since the first release of Spectators and impatiently wait for each release. I’m very happy to support you two, amazing creatives. I just subscribed. Take my money!!!!
I’ll miss my week being bookended by this newsletter and the always insightful comment section but if it’s easier on you chaps then it’s all good. Very excited to spend another 12 months with you all.
Long live Exploding Giraffe and bring on year two!!
WOO! I promise I will love this new shit! Maybe not more than the rest...but I’ll make sure I’m buried with it or demanded it be passed down for generations unless my lineage wants to lose out on the rest of my inheritance...
I enjoyed Jon Meacham's book "Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power" and am currently waiting to start his just released Abraham Lincoln biography. Seeing a blurb from him on the cover of "The Nazi Conspiracy" piques my interest.
I JUST listened to a podcast with Brad about his new book! What coincidence/thermal dynamic miracle. I’m definitely picking up the book & Brad was a genuinely funny guy. Not gonna lie though, I’m really gonna miss having my week bookended by Exploding Giraffe posts but hey its not the end of the world by any stretch. Hope everyone has a wonderful week!!!
Excited for another year of this, and will definitely keep my subscription; mostly as a lotto ticket for one of Niko's gorgeous Spectators pages! (Although im sure there will be all sorts of other surprises that make me say, "Holy Shit! I'm so glad im a paid supporter to get access to this!)
Something I'd love to see in year 2 is a live draw stream hosted by Brian with Niko drawing; kinda like they do at 3W3M with Del Mundo drawing and Hickman + suprise guests commenting and shooting the shit. I know the time difference might make this challenging, but I'd gladly tune in at any time of the day!
It is so comforting to know that whatever awful shit will (inevitably) happen this year, there'll always be a glimpse of light from you guys. Everything is getting more expensive every day and you're lowering your fees. On Martin Luther King's day. I'll stick with you forever.

Wow I have not thought about Trees Lounge in forever. Solid flick as I recall. Also, the comic is good.

Shit, I should also say “YAY YEAR TWO & PRICE!” But also, MATURE READERS GUEST! WOOOO! I mean, BOO. BOOBAKER!
Sounds like we have a lot to look forward in the New Year. So cool.
And I didn't know Brad Meltzer wrote non-fiction thrillers for adults. Hey, it even has a Jon Meacham blurb on the front!
Already cannot wait for next week's pages (and Saga 61 in less than ten days now)!
