Thanks for sharing that SAN FRANCISCO -- CITY OF POETS image; I was unaware of this project and I tip my hat to the San Francisco Arts Commission for the brilliant idea of using the comics medium to celebrate the city's history and culture. The artist of the posted image is A.C. Esguerra, and you can read more about the comics bus stop poster project at the SFAC site: https://www.sfartscommission.org/our-role-impact/press-room/press-release/comic-treat-market-street-final-installation-2022-art

No question, my favorite movie of the last decade (and likely in my all-time top 20) is MAD MAX: FURY ROAD.

Her is phenomenal! But I’m going to have to go with another spike jones masterpiece... jackass 3D! Just kidding but it is casually great for a series about pain for comedy’s sake. I have to go with Django I went and saw it 5 times in movie theatres and I don’t think there’s another picture I saw that many times and felt as rewarded each time. A film dedicated to schadenfreude

Black Swan and MM: Fury Road (bonus for an incredible musical score from Junkie XL on MM).

Unlike the previous decade, I can do this, I can name my favorite film of the 2010s—Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. That shot when he takes the leap…love everything about the movie. Honorable mentions to Kubo and the Two Strings, Coco, and Rogue One.

Arrival is my pick. Denis Villeneuve + Amy Adams + Jóhann Jóhannsson is an unbeatable trio in my book. The Social Network is #2, and the much mentioned Mad Max: Fury Road is probably #3.

With honorable mentions to “Moonrise Kingdom”, “Grand Budapest Hotel”, “Her”, “Hereditary” and “Avengers Endgame”, my favorite film of the 2010s has to be “Inception”. Just writing that sentence makes me want to go watch it again right now…

Most certainly Call Me By Your Name. Here what I wrote about the film during my month long pride series back in June:

This film is magic to me and I am completely under its thrall. The first time I saw it I was so awestruck, so shaken, I watched it again a week later, just to be certain of how I felt. I was even more confident after the second viewing: Call Me By Your Name had become my favorite film. I was enchanted.

The characters were so vibrant that they felt a part of me, that I was seeing myself on screen. That’s a particularly potent part of the film’s sorcery, feeling seen. So many things I had felt, so many emotions I had experienced all my life that I had never seen reflected were suddenly beaming down upon me from the silver screen. That recognition was so affirming it changed my life. Suddenly I was not so alone.

While I’m aware this movie had that effect on many people, and that fills me with joy, there is still a small crevice within my brain that maintains that it was made just for me. As if the filmmakers looked deep within my soul and conjured up the very thing I most needed. An unabashed, sweeping gay romance. One that basks in unfettered acceptance and radical vulnerability. Call Me By Your Name is so much more than a movie, it’s an emblem of queer tenacity.

Wow, this was a harder prompt than I thought!

THE TREE OF LIFE, though not all of it works, captures better than any movie I can think of what it's like being a young boy. Though I grew up in circumstances very different from the kids in the story, the *feeling* was so precisely right it was almost like watching home movies from one's own life on Earth 2.

INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE is a shining example of true "all ages" entertainment at its very best.

There are several honorable mentions, but for my top pick I'd have to flip a coin between the two above.

Into The Spiderverse is a perfect movie in my amateur opinion. Every frame is a painting. The care that went in to every inch of it shows. The story and characters are amazing. They never once bring up that they are in a blended family, and there is no drama caused by that, which is a trope that I hate. We watched it 3 times in theaters and countless times at home.

Other honorable mentions are Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Mad Max Fury Road for all it's insane glory, The Martian for having all it's problems be mathematical or logical instead of interpersonal, and Ex Machina.

If have to pick just one, I'm going with EDGE OF TOMORROW. This is favorite movie. If I had to pick best movie, I'd probably choose ARRIVAL which also happens to be one of my favorites.

Other noteworthy ones for me are Captain America: First avenger, Cap: Winter Soldier, Dredd, Mad Max Fury Road, Star Wars: TFA, Into the Spider-Verse, John Wick, Sicario, Tomb Raider (2018) (a MASSIVELY underrated movie), Avengers Endgame, and The Martian.

This is the decade where comics movies truly leveled up... Scott Pilgrim, Infinity War & Endgame, Into the Spider-Verse... and yet, the first Guardians of the Galaxy might be my favorite of the whole bunch.

Honorable mentions for Mad Max: Fury Road, Inception, Whiplash and Toy Story 3. Also, we're on the internet here... am I allowed to mention how much I love The Last Jedi?
