The Royal Tenenbaums still might be my favourite movie. The extreme versions very familiar family relationships, the failed attempts to find something you lost in your childhood home, some really great jokes, it's got it all!

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. For me, there was nothing like it at the time. I also really enjoyed The Departed & Dark Knight.

“Kill Bill” Masterpiece! Tarantino says he’s only making one more film. His 10th and final. I PRAY it’s Vol’s 3&4.

Woot! Chicago cameo in Spectators! (well, and the whole great lakes region...)

Oooo, 00's is tough.

I think the movie I consider the most frequently is "In Bruges."

(which is saying something considering how many times I've also seen Amelie, Royal Tenenbaums, Children of Men, A Serious Man, Eternal Sunshine, Pan's Labyrinth, Lady Vengeance, Y Tu Mama Tambien...lotta good ones to choose from.)

Synecdoche, New York. I love it as I love few other films.

Ugh, how am I supposed to pick just one? So many favorites from the aughts. I’ll start with The Fellowship of the Ring—the trilogy, always extended edition, gets a rewatch every year. House of Flying Daggers which is visually stunning, so much so, I’ll sometimes watch it without sound or subtitles so I can just burn the colors and choreography into my eyeballs. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon which is likewise a stunning film. Coraline which is delightful in every possible way. And then there is Pixar—The Incredibles, Up (the first 10 minutes are beautifully devastating), WALL-E (because in a remarkable feat of filmmaking you feel everything that robot feels and his story is a remarkable, fantastical journey). So many favorite movies!

I just instinctually wanna go with I 🖤 Huckabee's.

It was a weird and existential absurdist comedy with some of my favorite comedic actors (Dustin Hoffman and Lily Tomlin just KILL in it, as does Jason Shwartzman and it seared many of the lines into my head for-fuckin-ever.

HOW AM I NOT MYSELF????

I'll go with a director instead, Guillermo del Toro.

It's a tough choice: Pans labyrinth, Hell Boy, blade 2.

I only enjoyed the first 2 Blade movies. The other films of his I'm thinking of are 2010s.

Overall award goes to Almost Famous. Not sure why but it just hit me more than I thought!

Honourable mentions:

1. LOTR: Fellowship was pure gold and cinematic eye candy. This trilogy defined the 00’s.

2. Iron man was the first truly “fun” superhero movie

3. The Dark Knight. Christopher Nolan started the 00’s strong with Memento but ended it with a defining Batman movie that may be the best ever!

The Lord of the Rings movies are my favorite films of all time and I still think they hold up pretty well to this day. I’ve tattooed a quote from The Fellowship of the Ring on my arm and collected endless amounts of memorabilia, so I think they will likely remain in my top spot for a while.

Cinema peaked with 2001's Super Troopers. A tour de force.

This is a really tough one, but I think I have to go with the Coen brothers again.

No Country For Old Men.

I see a lot of love here already for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which is completely justified as it is an incredible film. That's my pick, although most other movies that will get mentioned here will give it some tough competition.

I'll also make special mention of a probably-obscure-outside-Australia 2003 film called The Rage In Placid Lake, which I love.

Favourite Noughties: Amelie. Or maybe I should say Jeunet because A Very Long Engagement & MicMacs are also delicious.
