I recently just finished Duma’s Key by Stephen King and I absolutely loved it! Found a first edition hardcover at the thrift store for $1 (“I’ll buy that for a dollar”) and couldn’t put it down. Great read.

I also finally got around to reading The Talisman, and although that is more of a fantasy story, all the stuff with the Sunlight Home really left me feeling uneasy. Some great scary stuff in that book!

Hereditary messed me up more than any movie in my adult life has. And if you can stomach multiple viewings, it’s worth watching again to pick up on all the little details you are likely to miss the first time through.

Nope was a complete blast and I really liked the theme of exploitation and being, well, a spectator.

Also rewatched Green Room recently which is always a blast, especially watching people kill Nazis.

Something is Killing the Children is great! Definitely love all of Peele's work (but haven't caught Nope yet! Stupid busy schedule!) and recently enjoyed The Black Phone a lot! Seeing Ethan Hawke call on his inner Robert Englund was a lot of fun!

Favourite two horror films so far this year: THE CURSED and THE BLACK PHONE - seeing NOPE soon. . .

Generally I don't do horror, outside of 'gifted amateur' Stephen King, but recently I've enjoyed Joe HIll's Basketful of Heads and Refrigerator Full of Heads from DC. Fun mix of concepts with lore behind them, New England setting, and some old fashioned beheaded comedy! What's not to love!?

I've fallen pretty deep into the horror comic genre since Gideon Falls. I'm reading Tynion's active series, invested into the Boneyard Orchard world that Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino have recently started, and to go off the deep end Ed Piskor's Red Room. We just had the family debate on movies after seeing Nope this weekend as well. Everything from recents such as Midsommer and Saw back to the early days of Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street. With all of that, the things that come forward as sticking with me are the "realer" stories. I remember as a young one that The Elephant Man always seemed to be waiting around the dark next corner. Pure brilliance from David Lynch and John Hurt.

These are not so recent, but two horror films I found nearly unparalleled in unnerving atmosphere were the Robert Eggers directed The Witch (2015) and The Lighthouse (2019). Both were fantastic in their depiction of the past, recreating the manner of speech at the time, along with the period's folk horror legends.

I want that last page on my wall. It's freaking awesome.

The Belfry by Gabriel Hardman. I loved the cover and it was a fun comic to devour.

Dig by John Lees / Alex Cormak is superb. Set in their Sink Universe in Glasgow, released as a 60ish page one shot very recently. Cannot recommend enough 😀 and check out all 10 issues of Sink as well. The best Horror anthology out there (and yes I think it even tops Silver Coin)
