Thanks for this post! I love seeing your process. Also thanks for posting Wally Wood's 22 rules. It's been so long since I've seen that I almost forget them.

Thank you! I find it fascinating to learn more about the work you put into your drawings. Are layouts something that writers and artists occasionally argue over? I'm remembering those hyper-detailed Alan Moore scripts that don't really allow any wiggle room when it comes to the page layout.

Thanks for sharing all this. I’m working as a Product Designer and struggle a lot with loosening up and making my drawings more dynamic. Any tips?

Absolutely fascinating, thanks for the insight Niko! Would love to see another post soon regarding inking/colouring.

Also, would be great to see some Spectators script-to-art process stuff but maybe Brian is super secretive with the scripts to this series considering it’s still in process?!

Great info! Thanks for sharing. Do you prefer the cintiq tablet to the ipad pro? It seems wacom is constantly rebranding their portable tablet. I think it is either now called wacom one or wacom mobilestudio pro, I am not sure which is which. Also, do you print in blueline from an epson for when you go to ink?

That was a fun video, thanks! It's amazing how quickly the image comes together with just the framework.

I love this sharing of your process. I've never seen Wally Wood 's 22 Panels That Always Work!! so that was gem for me. A lot of artists / cartoonists talk about Tin Tin. I should check that out from the local library. So many books, only so much time. The endless possibilities of how to structure to pages panels would freeze me. I'm glad you have the experience, mentors, practice, and skills to create storytelling art. Thanks for sharing!

Ditto! Niko, this is awesome! Because of COVID I started studying how to draw and make comics and--let's just say-- that I am no spring chicken, but so what? I want to enjoy myself and become competent enough to make my own GNs before I venture beyond the veil. Might as well do something useful and fun while in perpetual lockdown, right? This is super valuable. I will have to dive in and learn how to draw digitally, which is fine--I love to learn new things and love technology. It's been so much fun to learn how to use an actual brush and the different nibs etc. Composition and layouts are daunting, however. I can see you have to work smarter if you want to get your art finished. I printed out the Wally Wood page and pinned it to the wall in front of my makeshift drawing table. Tin Tin! I loved Tin Tin growing up. I never noticed the use of ellipsis, but you're right. A lot of the punchlines were delivered via ellipsis where the reader inferred the event. Hilarious! Do you ever draw old school with pencils, brushes etc when you are working on a project like this one? Or is that too time consuming? The reason I ask is I thought that your work was done in pencil, color pencil, and then scanned and inked digitally. But what do I know? I'm clueless! Don't laugh. It's not nice to laugh at ol geezers. Well, okay, sometimes it's fun to laugh at us. Have a great weekend.

Thanks for this Niko, super interesting !! I'm a writer mainly but practicing my art skills as I feel the two really feed into one another so stuff like this is great !

I often struggle drawing expressions and feelings on faces tho, have you any tips for this?? All the expressions in this story are just so REAL, especially when the mysterious protagonist has her date cancel on her ! Pure anger !

Thanks again and hope everyone is having a stellar weekend !! Xx

Love seeing your process. Are you using photo references for body positioning or are you just that naturally amazing. You mentioned the cinteq tablet, are you using that with photoshop or another program? Taught myself Procreate in the past year, mostly for portraits or logo designs & I’m obsessed with digital drawing rather than paper to pencil or paint to canvas. I’d love to get into the comic scene but honestly don’t know where to start. Finding the right muse to give you the amazing ideas to draw surely helps :) I think adding color would be a very fun step. Anyway, that was all very interesting & educational ✌️
