Happy All Hallows’ Eve eve, all happy and hallowed ones.
Brian here, sorry to once again have to warn you that, despite having been written weeks ago, upcoming scenes of Spectators may again mirror some of the many tragic horrors we’ve all been watching in the real world of recent.
If you’re not in the headspace to take in more terror at the moment, I completely understand, and encourage you to instead scroll down to some of this week’s more lighthearted Halloween fun.
But if you don’t mind fiction that occasionally explores our darkest fears (mine, at least) about modern life, artist/co-creator Niko Henrichon and letterer Fonografiks have some strikingly beautiful new pages of our NSFW graphic novel for you…
Awkwardly changing gears from that harrowing splash…
Last week, we promised to give away another original page of hand-painted Niko Henrichon art (from a slightly happier moment of Spectators) to one of you generous paid subscribers in The Tower, and our intern Genesis the Exploded Giraffe dove deep into the ol’ membership list to randomly select… Normie Osborn!
Congrats, “Normie,” and thanks for helping to make Exploding Giraffe possible.
Niko will give away another incredible page next month, but for now, his artwork is also for sale over at Essential Sequential, and for a few more days, everyone can get a whopping 25% off any Niko original by entering the code explodinggiraffe25 at checkout.
I might have to finally pull the trigger on this epic double-page spread if one of you doesn’t nab it first.
We’re less than a month away from the debut of Saga Volume 11, which will arrive at your friendly neighborhood comic shop on November 29th, and features this elegant logo design by Fonografiks over another breathtaking cover from artist/co-creator Fiona Staples:
To celebrate both its release and the season, Fiona drew some brand new artwork of her magnificently designed Miss Vitch, a mysterious character introduced in our latest storyline.
And for an extremely limited time—only until this Wednesday, November 1st!!!—you can get Fiona’s killer image on a few different colors and styles of shirts, hoodies, and more through our Saga Threadless shop.
Enjoy, and thanks for spreading the word to any of your fellow Saga readers who might not have heard about our latest wares:
Say, would you like one of my last copies of that rare second printing of Saga Chapter 66? Not only does it contain a humdinger of a story, but it’s also the only place where you can see ALL of the top winners from our latest Saga Costume Contest.
If you want a shot at a signed copy, just let us know: What kind of candy, if any, will you be handing out this Halloween?
And if your answer is full-size Whatchamacallit bars, please also include your street address, as I’ll be right over.
Finally, for this week’s Tower bonus content, I thought we’d revisit one of our most popular posts and show off some more amazing Saga costumes that we haven’t yet shared in print or online.
But first, here are a few extra pics of this year’s Grand Prize Winner, Isabella H., who included the following note with her unreal submission (and I should probably post a SPOILER WARNING in case you haven’t yet reached Saga #29):
I’m just barely on time to submit my costume entry to the costume contest and I hope the procrastination was worth it! My name is Isabella and for my costume I collaborated with my dad, Antonio, to create a costume of the The Brand (as she meets her demise) and Sweet Boy (modeled by our own sweet boy Bronson)! After finishing up some other costumes for an upcoming convention, we only had less than 10 days to put this one together on time, but it all worked out! The Brand instantly became one of my favorite characters (especially after seeing that she had a Saint Bernard too) and naturally you could imagine my shock when that dragon split her in half (and once again when Sweet Boy got rugged). But thank you nonetheless for creating such great characters, both in story and design, and I hope we’ve done them justice.
Isabella let us know that this “life-sized” dragon head (made of lightweight papier-mâché and fully wearable) is now just taking up space in her garage, so if you’d like to potentially OWN it, she’s currently accepting offers on this one-of-a-kind Saga collectible via her Instagram account.
Anyway, many more astounding photos for you Tower members after the jump, including several shots from one family who’s been dressing as Saga characters for an entire decade!
Everyone else, have fun tomorrow night, and I’ll see you back here next Monday for more free Spectators…
