SPECTATORS - Part 48

explodinggiraffe.substack.com

Good evening, you!

Brian here, happy to welcome our largest influx ever of new readers thanks to last week’s anniversary installment. If you missed the first 125 pages of our serialized NSFW graphic novel Spectators, you can catch up for free anytime in the Archives.

Otherwise, you’re all set to enjoy FOUR new pages from ambitious artist/co-creator Niko Henrichon and loyal letterer Fonografiks, right after a couple pages from our previous vignette to help set the table…

Hmm, what has Val just spotted off-panel that’s caused her concern?

Stay tuned for the answer in next Monday’s free installment, but don’t forget, everyone who joins us (or renews) as an annual paid subscriber in The Tower before the end of this month will be automatically entered in a drawing to win a breathtaking page of original Niko Henrichon art…

Look at this handsome bastard and his gigantic masterpieces!

…AND one of the few remaining copies on the planet of the ultra-rare Saga #1 Retailer Variant, straight from my private collection to TWO lucky winners.

Along with giveaways like these and all the other cool bonus stuff that comes with Tower membership, you’ll also be directly supporting independent comic creators (us) and the completion of our dream project (Pervy Voyeur Ghosts), so huge thanks again.

Some very sad news from here in Hollywood, as we recently lost (at the brutally young age of 45) actress Annie Wersching, who you may know from Picard and Vampire Diaries, but who I met through her role as Karolina’s mother Leslie Dean on Marvel’s Runaways.

She was an amazing performer and an even nicer human being. My deepest condolences to everyone who loved her.

Changing gears, check out the trippy new cover and endpapers drawn and designed by my pal Marcos Martín for the fancy Folio Society slipcase edition of Doctor Strange, which includes 14 of the good doctor’s “best” tales, as selected by former Marvel Editor-in-Chief Roy Thomas.

I’m beyond honored that Mr. Thomas apparently included the first issue of our Doctor Strange: The Oath miniseries in this handsome collection. Not sure if that means I’ll be getting a freebie (hook me up, Folio friends!), but I went ahead and ordered one of these $135 doorstoppers anyway, which I’ll be signing and giving away to one of YOU commendable commenters in today’s chat.

More details coming up for you Tower members…

For this week’s bonus bits and bobs, I thought we’d take a dive in the BKVault for another “lost” project, this one from the world of television and the not-so-distant past of 2018.

But rather than giving you a boring script (it’s a pretty great script), I thought I’d share a VIDEO of this action-packed, sci-fi political thriller set in the cultural powder keg that was the United States circa 1968, a series I co-created and co-wrote the pilot script for, but which remains unmade.

So if no actors were ever cast and no footage was ever shot, what the hell will I be showing you? The hopefully intriguing answer awaits our paid subscribers right after the jump.

Everyone else, thanks so much for reading, and have a great week!
