Oh, why hello there!
International Man of Mistakery Brian K. Vaughan here, just back from romancing the stone across Colombia on another top secret research expedition.
I was fortunate enough to watch a thousand hummingbirds in Bogotá, salsa dance in Cali, and even swim down to (allegedly) Pablo Escobar’s sunken airplane in the crystal waters of Cartagena.
I’d love to tell you more about this trip sometime, but for now, let’s talk about my next excursion…to San Diego Comic-Con.
If you’re attending this year, you’ll have a few opportunities to say hello to me (and to fellow Paper Girls creators Cliff Chiang, Matt Wilson and Jared K. Fletcher!).
And if you’re one of our generous paid subscribers here at Exploding Giraffe (at any tier), you’ll have an extra chance to get something signed by me, even if you can’t make it to the show.
Details on that special offer after the below paywall, which you can obliterate anytime by joining your fellow members in The Tower:
But first, here’s when and where any and all of you will be able to meet me next week (if you’re willing to endure some lines, wristbands, and other assorted hoops, with my sincere apologies for the hassle).
Thursday, July 21
Updating my schedule to include this just-added Thursday morning signing with all four extraordinary Paper Girls AND an exclusive giveaway my fellow Cliff Chiang fans won’t want to miss…

PAPER GIRLS PANEL (Ballroom 20!)
From Amazon Studios, Legendary Television, and Plan B comes Paper Girls, a coming-of-age sci-fi adventure series based on the best-selling graphic novels by Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang. Join the cast, creators, and executive producers as they reveal an in-depth look at what to expect when this series drops on Prime Video on July 29. Paper Girls is a high-stakes personal journey following four paper girls—Erin, Mac, Tiffany, and KJ—who are out on their delivery route in the early morning hours after Halloween 1988 when they become caught in the crossfire between warring time-travelers, changing the course of their lives forever. Transported into the future, these girls must figure out a way to get back home to the past, a journey that will bring them face-to-face with the grown-up versions of themselves and the Old Watch, a militant faction of time-travelers who have outlawed time travel so that they can remain in power. In order to survive, the girls will need to overcome their differences and learn to trust each other, and themselves. Instagram: @papergirlsonpv; Twitter: @PaperGirlsPV; #PaperGirls
7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
PAPER GIRLS SPECIAL FAN SCREENING (Rooftop Cinema Club Embarcadero, Manchester Grand Hyatt)
Join the cast and creators of Paper Girls for a red-carpet screening (of the first three episodes!) to celebrate the series’ upcoming July 29 premiere on Prime Video. This rooftop event will include ‘80s-themed food and beverages, exclusive poster giveaways, and special photo moments. I think there might still be some seats available for this (it’s free!), but you should RSVP at PaperGirlsScreening.com RIGHT NOW if you’re interested.
Saturday, July 23
2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
SIGNING AT THE FELIX COMIC ART BOOTH (#4612)
Back with Cliff for another signing in support of the Lu Family Fund!
4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
SIGNING AT THE IMAGE COMICS BOOTH (#1915):
Final chance (for this year, anyway) to get something signed by me, Cliff Chiang, Matt Wilson, and Jared Fletcher (Paper Girls) [*TICKETED]
That’s four signings, one panel with the cast of Paper Girls, and an epic rooftop screening. When the hell will I have time to shop for more original comic art?!
Again, if you can’t make any of those times, I’ll be doing an additional Secret Signing/Hang just for whatever Tower members happen to be at the show. And if SDCC just isn’t in the cards for you this year, I’ve got something in mind for you Tower types, too, with details after the jump.
And if you don’t care about any of this shit, no worries at all, here’s another shot of some gorgeous Colombian street art, and Niko Henrichon, Fonografiks and I will see you back here on Monday for more free Spectators!
